The high altitude, volcanic soils and steep slopes are perfect for growing tea, and indeed it is Rwanda’s number one export. The quality of Rwandan green tea leaves is among the best in the world. The tea regions are picturesque, with rolling green hills, often covered in clouds.
Visitors can visit tea plantations, see how the tea is picked in the field, how it is fermented at perfect temperatures which turns it from green to brown and how tea companies are working with international ones to become certified organic and other sustainable initiatives.
